Cville Market Vendor Spotlight: Coco's Granola

Coco's Granola was one of the nine local vendors featured at the first Cville Market on September 8th! According to the company's website, the idea for Coco's Granola began when owner Coco Sotelo noticed that much of the American-style granola available to her daughters after their sports practices lacked wholesome ingredients. Raised and educated in Mexico, Sotelo began crafting her own granola recipes that included special grains she knew from her childhood. "I found that I can express myself and bring a part of culture through food and...create food that can be healthy and delicious at the same time," Coco said in an email.

Originally called "Goana Granola," when it was founded in 2016, the company rebranded to "Coco's Granola this year. Their team is made up of Coco and her two oldest daughters. "I'm the baker and Ayesha and Isabella help with the packaging and farmers markets," Coco said.

Coco's Granola offers four flavors of granola, including "Abuela Isabella’s," which is a blend of ancient grains, amaranth, coconut, peanuts, honey, and sesame seeds. All of their products are made with non-GMO ingredients, preservatives, or artificial flavors. Many of the ingredients they use are also certified organic, and all of their products are vegan.

In addition to selling their granola at the Cville Market, Coco's Granola is currently sold on their website, in Integral Yoga Natural Foods in Charlottesville, and through the local distributor 4P Foods. As for the future, Coco expressed that two of her goals are to "grow the business gradually" and to "provide employment opportunities for women in [her] Latino community."
