Meet the Green Dining Team: Tara

Hi! My name is Tara Boyd. I’m a second year from Fairfield, CT, majoring in Environmental Science and minoring in Global Sustainability. Outside of school and work, I am involved in a few different clubs, including the Write Climate Club and the club quidditch team. I also volunteer at the Piedmont Virginia Community College community garden.

This is my first semester working for green dining, and I am so excited to be a part of this team. I wanted to work for Green Dining because I wanted to be more involved in sustainability initiatives on-grounds. I also wanted to be able to contribute towards the goals outlined in the sustainability reports, like reducing food waste and single-use plastics. I knew that working for Green Dining would allow me to have a say in some of these plans.

One of my favorite parts of my job has been participating in the Cupanion program. Like I said, I am really passionate about eliminating single-use plastics, and I love that this program is promoting this initiative in a way that caters to the interests of a wide variety of students. Not only does it involve students who also want to reduce their waste, but also for every scan, one cup of clean water is donated, which is great for students who care about their social impact. And for those students who love free stuff, they are able to redeem prizes for just drinking water!
