Meet the Green Dining Team: Yewon

Hi there! My name is Yewon and I am a second year from Centreville, VA with a intended major in Global Sustainability. I am a new Intern for Green Dining and am thrilled to work alongside the dining team to promote sustainable practices on grounds!

I am on the Executive Board of Morven Kitchen Garden, a student-run farm, 30 minutes away from grounds that focuses on sustainable farming practices. We grow and harvest a variety of fruits and vegetables and connect with UVA dining halls and members in the Charlottesville community to share our produce. Morven has showed me that there is a community of people who are genuinely interested in the importance of ethically and locally-sourced food.

I am interested in the relationship between sustainable food sources and health & wellness. I am a firm believer in supplying our bodies with nourishing and ethically-sourced foods to feel our best selves. Knowing what we are putting into our bodies and where our food comes from is a key aspect in self-care. I hope to influence other students on grounds on the significance of locally-sourced food while tying that into health and wellness.

As a Green Dining Intern, I will also work towards bringing awareness to fair trade goods in restaurants and dining halls on grounds.

I look forward to continuing my passions on grounds as a Green Dining sustainability intern!
